Open Your Home A Poem for Fosters...

I am the bridge between what was and what can be. I am the pathway to a new life. I am made of mush, because my heart, melted when I saw you, matted and sore, limping and depressed, lonely and unwanted, afraid to love. For one little time you are mine. I will feed you with my own hand. I will love you with my whole heart. I will make you whole, I am made of steel. And when the time comes, when you are well and sleek, When your eyes shine and your tail wags with joy... Then comes the hard part. I will let you go - not without tears, But without regret. For you are safe forever - A new dog needs me now.

- Diane Morgan

Our primary goal is to match rescued, adoptable dogs and cats with caring families who’s desire is to provide a loving and safe environment for them for the rest of their natural lives. This is a task done with great enthusiasm and respect for the displaced animal’s needs.

We have an adoption process that helps us to reach our goal stated above. It’s not a perfect tool, but it is the best tool we have to place animals in their forever home. So please be honest with yourself, your family and C.A.R.E.S. while going through this process, because Your decisions affect a helpless, innocent life.

  1. Application: You fill out our application, so we can get to know you a little better.
  2. Review: The foster family fully reviews your application and checks your references. This can take a day or more, but usually less that a week.
  3. Home Inspection: We do home inspections to insure that a potential home is safe for a dog or cat to live in. This lasts about half an hour. The adoptable is not present for this step.
  4. Meet and Greet: This is required when there are already animals living with you to ensure happy and positive introductions between your pets and the adoptable. The meet and greet takes place in a neutral location like a park or other public area, that neither dog frequents.
  5. Play Date: The play date is for you, your family and the adoptable to spend some private time together and get to know each other a little more. This takes place in your home and lasts around 4 hours.
  6. Sleep Over: If all has gone well so far, then the adoptable gets to spend one night in your home with you and your family. This step furthers the familiarity for everyone involved.
  7. Foster to Adopt: It takes 2 weeks or more, depending upon everone’s schedules, to arrive at this stage, because we space out the meetings, so as to not over stress the animal with rapid-fire meetings. Now, the dog will stay with you as a foster for a period of 4 to 8 weeks. This will allow you to evaluate long term interactions within your family concerning the adoptable.
  8. Contract: The contract finalizes and legalizes the adoption. The adoption processing fee of $150 dollars is due at signing, but even after adoption process is over, C.A.R.E.S. group members are always only just an email or phone call away, if you ever have questions or concerns! We have veterinary support and certified dog traininers in our ranks to help you with any problems regarding your new family member. We are in this for the long haul with you.

If at anytime in the highlighted process above, you experience any doubts or concerns about the adoption or some behavior of the adoptable, please, please contact the foster family or any C.A.R.E.S. member. We want the match to be perfect for everyone involved, both animal and human. Lets address any/all issues as early in the process as possible to avoid putting the adoptable through any unneccessary stress.

Likewise, C.A.R.E.S. reserves the right to abort the process and withhold/recover the adoptable at any point for any reason at C.A.R.E.S.’ and/or the foster family’s sole discretion. This includes violations of the adoption contract, animal abuse or neglect.

If you are committed to the life time care of one of C.A.R.E.S.’ adoptable pets and and are able to complete the adoption process as stated above, then please click here to fill out our online application.
